David Freyre is New York City-based singer-songwriter and percussionist. David is a versatile and compelling force in the world of music.
David has performed on the nation’s most prominent stages, such as the United Nations, SOB's, Metropolitan Room NYC, Williamsburg Music Hall, Highline Ballroom, Hartford Jazz Festival, Celebrate Brooklyn Music Fest, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, New York Fringe Theater Festival, Rockwood Music Hall, and the Anfiteatro Luis Muñoz Marín.
As lead vocalist, David eases into melodies with great depth of sound and organic understanding of rhythm. As background singer, he helps create beautiful harmonic tapestries. Born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico, he was profoundly influenced by its diverse and contrasting history, which in turn helped sculpt David’s world perspective and musical style. He has had the pleasure of collaborating in various genres with internationally acclaimed artists. David Freyre opened up acts for reggae giants Steel Pulse and Third World; and performed with NYC’s vintage Disco band, Escort. He is also proud to have played in the Latin scene with many greats such as Grammy Award nominated, Juan Carlos Formell; and saxophonist Layla Angulo, among others.
In addition to the valuable learning experiences music has granted him, David has also learned through formal training. He completed a Master of Arts in Jazz Performance and Composition at the CUNY's Aaron Copland School of Music in NYC and a Bachelor of Arts in Music, from The Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.
On April 3, 2018 David released his original music album, Calle y Corazón, where he is featured as singer, songwriter, arranger, and percussionist. Available now on all digital music platforms.
